How to wrap a plant for Easter and spring
Easter is the one gifting weekend where a plant is an easy sell, because half the household is already overloaded with chocolate. Bulbs, primroses and herbs all cost less than a big egg and last far longer.
Spring wrapping should be light: paper, moss and twine, nothing shiny, and the top always left open.

The rule that applies every time
- Wrap the pot, never the plant. Paper comes up to the rim and stops there.
- Tie at the rim with ribbon or twine so the foliage stays completely free.
- Tape a circle of card over the soil with a slit for the stem, so nothing spills in the car.
- Water lightly a day or two before, never on the day.
- Tuck the card into the ribbon rather than taping it to the pot.
Spring wrapping ideas
- A shallow basket lined with paper, three potted bulbs inside, moss tucked around the pots.
- Kraft paper with pale green or yellow twine - seasonal without being twee.
- A terracotta pot instead of wrapping, with the receipt for the plant tucked underneath.
- Brown paper cone tied at the rim for a single primrose, handed over on the doorstep.
- A wooden crate for a herb trio, which doubles as something they keep.
Plants and bulbs that suit Easter
- Potted daffodils and hyacinths - cheap, scented and unmistakably spring.
- Primroses for a doorstep gift or a neighbour.
- A herb pot for anyone hosting the Sunday lunch.
- Sunflower seeds and a pot for children - the growing is the gift.
- Avoid lilies around cats, and keep bulbs out of reach of dogs.
