Garden Glamping: How To Create A Luxury Staycation At Home

You don't need to drive to Cornwall for a glamping weekend. A bell tent and a few comforts turn the garden into a staycation.

Some of the things we suggest here are sold by other shops, not by us. Where we link to them, we say so.

The set-up

  • A canvas bell tent on the flattest bit of lawn.
  • Rugs and a groundsheet so it stays dry underfoot.
  • A proper mattress or airbed, not a roll mat.

Make it cosy

  • Festoon or solar fairy lights.
  • Plenty of cushions, blankets and hot water bottles.
  • Lanterns along the path to the house.

Food and drink

  • A fire pit or BBQ for toasting marshmallows.
  • A wine cooler, like the Solenco, plugged in nearby so drinks stay chilled away from the fridge.
  • Hot chocolate in a flask for later.

Plan for British weather

  • Have a gazebo or awning ready for rain.
  • Pack an extra layer — nights get cold, even in July.
  • Check the forecast and have a back-up film night indoors.

Key things to remember

  • Pitch the tent a day early to check for leaks.
  • Keep a torch by the bed.
