Moving Day Survival Kit
Share
We make cards, prints and pin badges in the UK. We don't sell furniture or toasters, so this is a plain guide - the card and the wall print at the end are the only things we make.
Every stressful move has the same cause: the kettle is in a van and nobody knows which box the toilet roll is in.
Pack one box last, keep it in the car, and the day gets dramatically easier.
Finish it with a card
Post a new home card so it arrives on their first week.

The box you pack last
- Kettle, mugs, teabags, milk, sugar and a spoon.
- Toilet roll, hand soap, a towel and a bin bag.
- Phone chargers, an extension lead, a torch and the wifi router.
- Painkillers, plasters, snacks and a change of clothes each.
Keep with you, not in the van
- Passports, deeds, contracts, medication and anything irreplaceable.
- Keys, labelled, including the ones for windows and the shed.
- Chargers, laptops and anything you'd hate to lose in a box mix-up.
- Pet supplies and the pet carrier.
Jobs before dark
- Photograph the gas, electricity and water meters at both properties.
- Find the stopcock, the fuse box and the boiler instructions.
- Check the smoke alarms and change the locks if you've bought the place.
- Make up the beds. Whatever else doesn't get done, do this one.
Kids and pets
- Arrange childcare or pet care for the loading and unloading hours if you can.
- Set up one child's room first so there's somewhere calm to put them.
- Keep pets in one closed room with a sign on the door and their own things around them.
- Order takeaway early. Everywhere is booked by 7pm on a Friday.
How to write it so it lands
- One box in the car, not the van.
- Photograph the meters.
- Make the beds first.
