- Which 1927 film is generally called the first feature-length 'talkie'? Answer: The Jazz Singer. Silent cinema was finished within a few years.

- In which year did the BBC begin daily radio broadcasting? Answer: 1922. The British Broadcasting Company started broadcasting in November 1922.
- The General Strike took place in which year? Answer: 1926. It lasted nine days in May 1926.
- Which discovery did Alexander Fleming make in 1928? Answer: Penicillin. Fleming noticed the mould's effect on bacteria at St Mary's Hospital.
- At what age could all women in Britain vote from 1928? Answer: 21. The 1928 Act gave women the vote on the same terms as men.
- Which tomb was opened by Howard Carter in 1922? Answer: Tutankhamun. The discovery caused an Egyptian craze in fashion and design.
- The Wall Street Crash happened in which year? Answer: 1929. October 1929, and the Depression followed.
- Who made the first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic, in 1927? Answer: Charles Lindbergh. New York to Paris in the Spirit of St Louis.
- What did most people need in order to listen to the radio legally? Answer: A wireless licence. The licence fee dates back to the very start of broadcasting.

- Art deco takes its name from an exhibition held in which city in 1925? Answer: Paris. The Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, 1925.
- Who published the Surrealist Manifesto in 1924? Answer: Andre Breton. Dali did not join the surrealists until 1929.
- The Bauhaus design school was founded in Germany in which year? Answer: 1919. Founded by Walter Gropius; the Nazis forced it to close in 1933.
