Birth Flower Card Messages: What to Write
Share
We make cards, pin badges and prints in the UK. We don't sell flowers or jewellery, so the guide below is a straight guide - the card and the prints at the end are the only things we're selling.
If you've bought a birth flower gift, the card has to carry the meaning, or it just looks like you bought a plant.
Warm lines, funny lines, and one per month if you want to lift it straight.
Finish it with a birthday card

Warm lines
- Your birth flower means a return to happiness. Feels about right for this year.
- Apparently your month's flower stands for loyalty. Thirty years of proof, so they got that one right.
- Picked the flower for your birth month. Turns out it means exactly what I'd have said anyway.
- Happy birthday. Your flower means new beginnings, which suits where you are right now.
Funny lines
- Your birth flower means strength of character. I'd have said stubbornness, but let's go with theirs.
- Looked up your birth flower. It means an open heart. It said nothing about the state of your kitchen.
- Your birthstone stands for wisdom. The Victorians clearly never met you.
- I was going to buy flowers, then found out yours means devotion, and that felt like overpromising.

Frequently asked questions
What do you write on a birth flower card?
Name the flower, say what it means in plain words, then add one line of your own. That order keeps it personal rather than decorative.
Can you use birthstones in a card message instead?
Yes, and it works well when you've wrapped in the stone's colour - say what the stone stands for and let the wrapping do the rest.
Is a birth flower message too soppy for a bloke?
Not if you undercut it. "Your flower means strength of character, which explains a lot" is the same information with the edge left on.
