Birth Flower Gift Ideas
Share
We make cards, pin badges and prints in the UK. We don't sell flowers or jewellery, so the guide below is a straight guide - the card and the prints at the end are the only things we're selling.
A birth flower gift works because it looks chosen rather than grabbed. You only need to know the month, which you already do.
Ideas by budget, and what to write once you've picked one.
Finish it with a birthday card
Whatever you pick, the card carries the meaning - the gift just sits next to it.

Under £10
- A packet of seeds for their birth flower, taped inside a card. Costs almost nothing, lasts a season.
- A postcard or small print of the flower, which is the cheapest way to make the wall personal. Shop this card
- A bar of soap or candle in the matching scent - rose for June, lily of the valley for May.
- A bookmark or pin badge in the birthstone colour.
£10 to £30
- An A4 or A3 print of their birth flower, framed cheaply from anywhere on the high street.
- A bulb kit for March daffodils or December narcissus, planted with them rather than for them.
- A birthstone-colour scarf, mug or notebook, which does the job without pretending to be jewellery.
- A small pressed-flower keepsake, best for a milestone birthday rather than a normal one.
£30 and up
- Birthstone jewellery: a pendant or stud earrings in the month's stone or a lab-grown version of it.
- A framed set of prints, one flower per family member, which is the version people keep.
- A real plant of the flower where it grows in the UK - a rose for June, a peony for November.
- A florist bouquet built round the birth flower, ordered by name so they don't substitute it.
What to avoid
- Cut flowers alone for someone who travels or works away - they die before they get seen.
- Anything with the meaning printed on it in a script font. Say it in the card instead.
- Lily of the valley or anything lily-family in a house with cats. It's genuinely dangerous to them.
- Diamond-month gifts that strain the budget. Nobody expects April to be expensive.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good birth flower gift?
A print of the flower, seeds or bulbs, a candle in the matching scent, or birthstone jewellery in the same month's colour. Add a card that says what the flower means.
How much should you spend on a birth flower gift?
£10 to £30 covers most of them well. The personal part is knowing the month, not the price.
Are birth flower gifts a bit twee?
They can be if the meaning is printed across the gift. Keep the object plain and put the sentiment in the card and it lands properly.
