Black Friday Christmas Card Deals

Black Friday week is the sweet spot for Christmas cards. Buy earlier and you forget you bought them; buy later and you're writing forty cards in a panic on 18 December.

Here's how to work out the number and get the price right.

The dates

• Black Friday is always the fourth Friday in November. In 2026 that is Friday 27 November.
• Cyber Monday is the Monday straight after. In 2026 that is Monday 30 November.
• The weekend between them is now treated as one long sale by most UK retailers.
• Most UK sales start on the Monday of Black Friday week and run to midnight on Cyber Monday.
• Royal Mail's busiest stretch starts the week after Cyber Monday, so anything ordered in the sale still moves at normal speed.

Working out how many you need

• Count households, not people. One card per home is the norm.
• Add the ones you always forget: neighbours, the person at work who gives you one first, your kid's teacher.
• Add five spares. You will need them, and spares carry over to next year.
• Buy the stamps at the same time. Running out of stamps is what makes cards late.

Multipacks versus singles

• Multipacks win on price for the round-robin cards - neighbours, colleagues, the wider list.
• Buy singles for the handful of people who'd notice: parents, best friends, anyone grieving this year.
• Mixed designs beat one design repeated twenty times if any of your recipients know each other.
• Check the envelope colour and size before you buy in bulk - odd sizes cost more to post.

Writing and posting

• Write them the first weekend in December, in two sittings, with the list in front of you.
• Second Class is fine for Christmas cards if you post by the first week of December.
• Royal Mail's last recommended posting dates land in the third week of December - don't plan to use them.
• Post the overseas ones first. They're the only ones with a hard deadline.
