Postcards: send one instead of a text

A postcard costs about the same as a coffee and takes ninety seconds to write, but it is the only thing that arrives on someone's doormat that is not a bill.

Ours are A6, printed in the UK on card thick enough to survive the post and then get pinned up. Music lyrics, funny lines and a few genuinely rude ones.

They also work as the cheapest wall art going: four or six on a pinboard, a fridge or the edge of a gallery wall.

What to write on a postcard

• One thought, not a letter - the size is the whole point.
• Say the specific thing: what reminded you of them, and when.
• 'No reason, just thinking of you' is a complete message on a postcard.
• Sign it properly. A postcard with initials only feels like an advert.

When a postcard beats a text

• Someone in hospital, in a care home, or anywhere the days are long.
• A friend who moved away and gets no post except admin.
• A thank you that would feel over the top as a full card.
• Students and anyone living alone for the first time.

Using postcards as wall art

• Six A6 cards fill roughly the same wall space as one A3 print, for less.
• Washi tape or a pinboard means no holes and no deposit arguments.
• Swap them seasonally - the whole point is that they are cheap to change.
• A6 clip frames from the high street fit them without any trimming.

What size are your postcards?

All our postcards are A6, which is 105 x 148mm - standard UK postcard size, so they fit A6 clip frames and go in the post with a normal stamp.

Can I post a postcard without an envelope?

Yes. A6 is within Royal Mail letter dimensions, so a postcard posts with a single stamp, address and message on the back. An envelope is only needed if you want the message private.

Are postcards good as wall art?

They are the cheapest way to fill wall space. Six A6 cards cover roughly the same area as one A3 print, and washi tape or a pinboard avoids any holes in a rented wall.

How fast are postcards posted?

Orders are usually sent from the UK the same working day, and postcards travel flat with anything else in the order.
