A6 cards: the size we print, and why

Every greetings card we print is A6: 105mm x 148mm folded, which is the size most people picture when they think of a card. It is an A4 sheet folded twice, half the size of A5, and it fits a C6 envelope exactly.

This page covers the measurements, the postage, the envelope, and when a bigger card is worth the extra money. Everything we make is drawn in house, printed in the UK on proper card stock and posted first class in a kraft envelope.

A6 card size, in numbers

  • Folded: 105mm x 148mm, which is 4.1in x 5.8in.
  • Flat, before folding: 148mm x 210mm, the same as A5.
  • Envelope: C6, 114mm x 162mm, included with every card.
  • Postage: a standard letter, so one first class stamp covers it.
  • Half the size of an A5 card, a quarter of an A4 one.

When a bigger card is worth it

  • A6 suits almost everything: birthdays, thank yous, congratulations, sympathy.
  • A5 is worth it when several people are signing, like an office leaving card.
  • Anything larger is usually a postage problem rather than a nicer gift.
  • A postcard is the cheapest thing to post, if you only need a line or two.

How much does it cost to post an A6 card?

One standard letter stamp. First Class is usually next working day but is not guaranteed; Second Class is meant to be two working days but can take up to five.

Do you print any other card sizes?

No. Every card we make is A6, at one price, so there is no large or giant upgrade to pay for. Our prints come in A5, A4 and A3.
