What to print

  • One question sheet per team, not per person. Four to six people per team is the sweet spot.
  • One answer sheet for the quizmaster only, kept face down.
  • One scorecard for the quizmaster, with a column per round and a row per team.
  • A blank tiebreaker slip per team, collected at the start and only used if needed.
  • A team name line at the top of every sheet, because half the fun is the team names.

The question sheet layout

  • Round title at the top, then numbered lines 1 to 10 with a good gap between each.
  • Print single sided. People write on the back and lose track otherwise.
  • Size 12 or 14 type minimum. Size 16 if you're running it in a care home or for an older group.
  • Leave a wide right-hand margin for marking ticks.
  • Put the total possible score for the round in the corner.
  • Don't print the answers on the reverse. It happens every time.

A running order that works

  • Round 1: Guess the year. Everybody can guess, so nobody feels stupid in the first ten minutes.
  • Round 2: Music, by decade. Two points for artist and title, one for either.
  • Round 3: Television and film.
  • Round 4: Sweets, adverts and everyday life - the noisiest round, best placed mid-evening.
  • Round 5: A picture or object round if you have one, or news and events if not.
  • Round 6: A short general knowledge round to finish, then the tiebreaker.
  • Mark between rounds by swapping sheets between teams. It keeps the pace up and the arguing honest.

Making it look the part

  • Print the sheets on cream or off-white paper for a decade night - it reads as old without costing anything.
  • A decade-appropriate typeface on the round titles only. Keep the questions plain and readable.
  • Number the teams as well as naming them, so the scorecard stays legible.
  • Print two spare question sheets. Somebody always spills something.
  • If you're projecting instead of printing, still print one sheet per team for answers.

Are your quiz sheets free to print?

Yes. Copy the questions into a document, lay them out as you like, and print as many as you need - for a party, a school, a club, a care home or a fundraiser.

How many question sheets do I need?

One per team, not per person. Teams of four to six work best, so a room of thirty needs about six sheets plus a couple of spares.

What size should I print quiz sheets?

Size 12 to 14 type as a minimum, and size 16 for an older group or a care home. Single sided, with a wide right margin for marking.
