Stag Weekend Itinerary: A Timetable That Actually Works

Everybody plans the activity and nobody plans the gaps. The gaps are where a stag weekend goes wrong: the three hours between check-in and dinner, the dead Saturday morning, the Sunday nobody thought about.

We don't sell board games. We design and print greetings cards, pin badges and party bits in the UK, so the games named here are recommendations rather than our own products.

This is a timetable that has survived real weekends, with the evening entertainment sorted rather than left to chance.

Cards for the groom and the wedding ahead

Friday

  • Afternoon: staggered arrivals. Give one meeting point and one time, not a group chat of guesses.
  • On arrival: rooms sorted, kitty collected in cash or one payment app, house rules stated once.
  • Early evening: food booked and paid in advance. Never try to seat twelve people in a restaurant at nine on a Friday.
  • Evening: keep it in the accommodation. Games, drinks, the group settling in.
  • Set the Saturday start time out loud and write it on the fridge.
  • Anyone arriving late gets the plan by text, not a phone call at midnight.

Saturday

  • Late breakfast, cooked in the house or booked somewhere that takes a group.
  • Midday: the main activity - go karting, clays, axe throwing, a brewery tour, a hike with a pub at the end.
  • Mid-afternoon: back, showers, a couple of hours of nothing. Plan this gap or it plans you.
  • Evening: eat at a booked table, then out or back to the house.
  • The night runs better with a plan for the point where people fade around eleven.
  • Book the taxis for the return leg when you book the ones out.

The three games that carry an evening

  • The Traitors - the board game of the TV show. Secret traitors, round-table accusations and banishments, and it turns a room of people who half know each other into a proper evening. Best with six or more.
  • At Home Murder Mystery - a boxed kit with characters, clues and a script. One person hands out the roles, everyone arrives in loose costume, and the party plans itself around the story.
  • Hitster - pull a card, play the song, place it on your timeline by year. No reading, no rules lecture, works while people are still arriving and drinking, and the arguments about which decade a song came from run all night.
  • Between them they cover the three moods you need: a long social game, a themed centrepiece and a fast one that fills gaps.

Sunday and the money

  • A late check-out if you can get one, a fry-up, and a firm leaving time.
  • Settle the kitty before anyone gets in a car. Never after.
  • Collect money up front, in full, at least a month ahead - not on the day.
  • Publish the total cost per head before people commit. Nobody minds a price, everyone minds a surprise.
  • Have a fund for the one thing that goes wrong, because one thing always does.
  • Leave the accommodation decent. Deposits and future bookings depend on it.

Mistakes that ruin weekends

  • Planning it around what the best man wants rather than the groom.
  • No food booked, so twelve drunk people wander a city at ten looking for a table.
  • Activities back to back with no gap - people end the day exhausted at seven.
  • Forfeits that humiliate rather than amuse. Nobody remembers them fondly.
  • One person out of pocket by hundreds because the kitty wasn't collected up front.
  • No plan for the guest who doesn't drink. Build the weekend so they have a good time too.

How to write it so it lands

  • Book every meal. It's the difference between a good weekend and a hungry one.
  • Protect the Saturday afternoon gap.
  • Cash kitty, collected early, held by someone sensible.

Frequently asked questions

What should a stag weekend itinerary include?

Staggered Friday arrivals with one meeting point, a booked Friday dinner, a Saturday midday activity, a deliberate afternoon gap, booked Saturday food, evening games, and a firm Sunday leaving time.

How much does a UK stag weekend cost?

Commonly £150-£300 a head for accommodation, one activity, food and drink. Publish the per-head total before people commit and collect it in full a month ahead.

What do you do on a stag weekend evening?

Eat at a booked table, then run entertainment rather than hoping: The Traitors for a long social game, an At Home Murder Mystery kit for a themed night, or Hitster for fast music rounds.

Who plans the stag do?

The best man, with the groom's limits agreed in private first - budget, dates, what's off the table. The weekend is for the groom, not the organiser.

Do you sell board games or party games?

No. We design and print greetings cards, pin badges and party bits in the UK. The Traitors, At Home Murder Mystery and Hitster are outside recommendations, not products we stock.
